Dear Soldier,
It is a beautiful winter day, the kind when you think of Hawaii or California or Florida to try to feel warmer. It's hard not to think of you, in a hot climate not necessarily of your choosing and to say thank you for being where you are and doing what you're doing. You are in my heart and thoughts and prayers. God bless, (signature)
Dear Soldier,
(Team) just won against (team). Then go on to talk about the highlights, or include a sports column about it. Include appreciation for what they are doing, and understanding that they are missing home, family and friends.
Remember that letters from veterans of previous wars will be especially appreciated because they've "been there, done that" and can better relate to what our guys are experiencing.
The troops LOVE letters and drawings from children, so please encourage people to have their children draw a picture and sign it Love, (signature).
Each letter is as individual as the person writing it. Just be upbeat, talk about sports, entertainment "news", cars, pets, etc, but no politics. Express appreciation for their sacrifice and best wishes for their safe return home to family and friends. People may sign just their names, or add their addresses in case the soldier wants to write back. Remember these guys are on duty practically 24/7, so writing to family comes first, and I have sent 40 packs of stationery with envelopes and stamps to help with that. |
